Internal tooth lock washers are for locking and tension. Teeth on the inside diameter of the washer provide locking tension by "biting down" on the assembly. This tension adds resistance to rotation that may be caused by vibration. Internal Tooth Lock Washers are used to lock assemblies underneath the head of the fastener, and are often chosen over External Tooth Lock Washers because of their smooth finished exterior edge.
